6. Accidents

6.1       Absences resulting from accidents at work are treated as sickness absence and the Company’s normal rules will apply to such absences (See Section 3).

6.2       All accidents and incidents (including near-miss incidents) involving any adults (including but not limited to staff, parents, contractors and visitors) must be reported to the Nursery Manager so that the cause can be ascertained, the control measures re-evaluated and action taken to prevent recurrence.

6.3       Work-related accident and injuries, in particular those requiring medical care, hospitalisation or time off work, must be reported immediately to the Managing Director and Health and Safety Officer who will refer to HSE guidance to determine if it must be reported under RIDDOR.

6.4       All accidents and incidents, no matter how minor, must be recorded on an Accident Form, which is filed in the Staff Accidents folder.

6.5       It is the responsibility of all employees to provide complete and accurate information to enable management to find out what went wrong, learn lessons and take action to prevent or reduce such accidents/incidents in the future.

6.6       Each month the manager undertakes an accident audit. If patterns are seen, such as areas of the nursery which are causing concern, this is discussed with Senior Management.

6.7       Accidents and incidents involving children must be reported in accordance with the Accident Policy.

6.8       Fire Warden and Manual Handling training are required during your probationary period. You will sign your Employee Induction Checklist to state that you have read and understood the Company Health and Safety policies.
