At all our nurseries we aim to offer all children the opportunity to enjoy something special and different as part of our curriculum, at no additional cost to their parents; this is so that all children can be included, without financial implication.
Below you will find information on some of the activities that we have offered at Bristol Childcare over the years. Please note, additional enrichment activities will not be running all of the time at all of the nurseries, we change them according to the season, the needs and interests of the children and to provide variety:
Active Kids
Active Kids provide exciting physical development classes. The aim is to introduce the foundations for exercise, nutrition and other healthy approaches to life to help children develop positive attitudes to these. There is a monthly theme repeated each week so as to develop those physical skills and also to link in with EYFS statements such as “remembering sequences & patterns of movement” and “singing songs”.
Story Adventures
These one-off sessions are interactive storytelling adventures which immerse children in a theme based around a book. We have had sessions based on Zog, Whatever Next and The Snail on the Whale. The children are told the story by the group leader and then explore the themes through interactive activities such as dark dens, sensory props, puppets and messy play.
uSports
uSports offer a range of activities and we have tried the football and multi-sports sessions which introduce children to a range of sports such as rugby, tennis and dance. uSports aims to help educate through an active and engaging programme which compliments the EYFS framework.
Talking Tots
Talking Tots uses exclusive games and learning activities to help children become confident with sounds, words, rhyme and rhythm – vital pre-literacy skills that will help children when it’s time to learn to read and write. The sessions also combine exciting group and individual activities to help boost the concentration and social skills that children will need in the classroom.
Sing and Sign
Sing and Sign sessions are designed to help encourage babies’ communication. The teacher uses instruments and puppets to engage the babies and signs alongside singing to help teach signs and sounds to babies and staff.
Baby Yoga
The sessions are led by a teacher who supports the staff to help move the babies’ bodies in a gentle way, while singing and engaging the babies.
Bill the Music Man
Sessions are designed for each age group so that all children are included. Bill brings along some really unusual instruments which the children can explore. He teaches new songs and the sessions are always enjoyed by children and staff.
French Lessons
Run by Rhian Davis a qualified, independent language teacher based in Bristol, the sessions are fun and interactive using props, rhymes and songs to give the children a chance to discover the French way of life including family, celebrations, food and animals in a different language and with a variety of activities. At the end of term parents receive a short report and dictionary of words used throughout the sessions.
Woodland Makery
Elise from Woodland Makery runs seasonal sessions at all three nurseries, teaching the children how to press apples to make apple juice or how to recognise birdsong and make a bird feeder. Elise also teaches the children fire safety and everyone enjoys a fire and some s’mores!
Yoga
Staff at all three nurseries share their love of yoga, teaching the children age-appropriate poses, breathing exercises and the wellbeing skills yoga promotes.
Trips
With parents’ written permission (you will be asked to sign this on registration) our staff enjoy taking the children out of nursery for exciting and educational trips. This can be to the library, to the park, to a local shop to buy something or to post a letter. Carefully supervised trips are a wonderful way for children to learn and be stimulated by the world around them.
Share your skills and interests
As part of our partnership with parents programme, parents are encouraged to visit to share their interests with the children. If you have a talent or skill you would like to share, like playing the guitar or painting, or a fascinating job that the children would love to hear about, please get in touch with your nursery manager.
