Experienced Pre-School Teacher and Curriculum Lead for The Court House Day Nursery in Knowle, BS4 2PU
We are recruiting for an experienced Pre-school Teacher and Curriculum Lead to work at The Court House Day Nursery in Knowle. This is a full-time role – 40 hours per week, year-round. The nursery is open from 7.30am until 6pm and candidates must be available to work during those times.
There are two elements to the role – working with the children in pre-school and supporting as a curriculum lead across the nursery.
You will be working in the pre-school as the lead teacher and also caring for the children. You will work with children and families as a Key Person and will support the team in observing, assessing and progressing each child’s development, as well as undertaking this yourself for your key children. You will role-model good practice to the team and help them learn and develop; leading on the curriculum and understanding of child development.
We use the online system Connect to record and evaluate learning and observations and our curriculum implementation is through In the Moment Planning. Our ethos is child-led and family orientated.
The curriculum lead role will involve mentoring new and existing staff with knowledge of the EYFS, Development Matters and use of iConnect for observation and assessment and leading on ensuring engaging room environments and resources to enable implementation of In the Moment Planning. You will monitor assessment and planning, undertake the cohort tracking to identify gaps in learning or resources and work with the manager to implement any required interventions.
YOU WILL NEED
At least a Level 3 childcare qualification that is “full and relevant” for early years.
Experience of working in a pre-school and leading teaching is essential. Experience of planning and implementing Letters and Sounds would be an advantage.
Good communication skills with children, parents and colleagues, and the ability to work in a thriving team and busy environment.
An embedded understanding of child development and how children learn. Experience or knowledge of In the Moment Planning would be an advantage.
An embedded understanding of Development Matters and cohort tracking.
A sense of fun, a love of working with children and a desire to help other practitioners learn, develop and fulfil their potential.
The successful applicant will also actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring nursery policies and procedures are observed at all times.
- Excellent rates of pay and contributory pension.
- Paid lunchbreak and uniform provided.
- Up to 28 days’ holiday entitlement including bank holidays (increasing to 31 after 2 years).
- Flexible shift patterns

CPD – Cascade Training
Continuing professional development is important to us at Bristol Childcare. All staff have a Professional Development form where Priorities for Improvement are recorded. We also have Room and Nursery Development Plans.
We recognise that training can take many forms, including external courses; reading; videos and conversations. Part of our CPD is Cascade Training, which takes place twice a year on a Saturday morning. The whole BCC team comes together to learn from each other. We’ve discovered that it’s a really dynamic way to share ideas, enthusiasm, motivation and to develop and learn as a group.
“It was a really enjoyable Cascade. I really enjoyed the maths and singing presentations.”
“I came away feeling energised”
“The training was really good on Saturday, lots of new things to try out at nursery”
