Mornington House

Mornington House was the first nursery opened by Bristol Childcare in 1971 and is run by a well-established team. It’s a small and cosy environment with a babyroom, two-to-three’s room and pre-school. The nursery opens at 7:30am and closes at 6pm with days planned around a routine of lunch, snack, singing and story times. This combines the security of structure with the flexibility and excitement of surprises and spontaneity.

Children at Mornington House enjoy a wide range of fun and creative activities from den making to painting with string. We follow the government Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which involves observing the children, planning activities to suit them and assessing their progress.

Three to five year olds are led by experienced nursery practitioners in a bright and vibrant pre-school with free-flow to the outdoors. There is a varied programme of extra activities led by external teachers throughout the year, currently including French lessons. All of these activities are included in the hourly rate. Our Baby Room has different spaces and a free-flow terrace garden to ensure all age babies benefit from appropriate play and opportunities for movement. We have a mature, secluded back garden which the children enjoy using in all weathers.

As a small nursery we can provide a personal service and homely environment. Meals are freshly prepared on site every day by our cook and our menus are planned with reference to the Action for Children Eat Better Start Better Voluntary Food and Drink Guidelines for Early Years Settings in England.

We celebrate a wide range of festivals and seasonal events such as Diwali, Chinese New Year and Mother’s and Father’s Days. We are always delighted when families join us to share their cultural celebrations. At Christmas we perform a nativity play which all families are invited to watch.

With us you don’t have to do fixed sessions. Subject to availability your child can attend nursery at times to suit you. All we ask is that your child attends for a minimum of eight hours over at least two days, as it is our experience that any less makes it difficult for a child to settle. Fees are calculated on a sliding scale so the more hours you do the less we charge per hour.

At Mornington House we work hard to make nursery enjoyable for each individual child. Why not come and visit to see what we have to offer you and your child? Nursery Manager Diane James is looking forward to hearing from you.
