Ethically sourced meat

Powells_MeatWe are excited to announce that Bristol Childcare now sources all meat, except chicken*, from Powells of Olveston, a butcher that only provides ethically sourced meat.

Powells, who supply many restaurants across Bristol, states: “all our produce is local, whenever possible and it has all been ethically sourced. To guarantee this we work closely with local farmers and fishermen who deliver only the very finest produce to us for our customers. We guarantee traceability on all our meat and fish, ensure it’s highest quality and help support the rural economy at the same time. Our farmers maintain the highest standards of animal welfare, and this is reflected in the superb quality and taste of our meat.

Beef

The Beef we sell comes from local farms with the exception of our Scottish Topside which comes from Aberdeenshire. Fed on a healthy grass and cereal-based diet our beef is produced from our carefully chosen farmers and each cut is carefully prepared to ensure that it is suitable for its intended use.

Pork
All our pork is local and reared outdoors. The pigs spend their entire life outside doing what comes naturally, roaming freely in open fields and rooting through the soil. This makes for a happy pig and better tasting pork.”

At Bristol Childcare we are proud to have made this commitment to improving the quality and sustainability of the meals we provide. We feel confident that this change in supplier will mean that our meals are tastier and the meat we serve is more nutritious, containing less chemicals and hormones.

We will continue to monitor the meals we provide and discuss preferences with the children.

If you would like to come in and enjoy lunch with your child, please ask your nursery manager.

*chicken will be continued to be sourced elsewhere so that it remains Halal
