The Twos at The Court House have enjoyed this pumpkin pizza making activity! The twos started by picking a pumpkin shaped wrap then used their gross motor skills to ‘spread’ the tomato puree. They then chose their toppings of choice and used their hands and spoons to put the toppings on their pizza. This links to the British values – individual liberty and also links to the Bristol Childcare ethos (encouraging independence and life skills). This encouraged the children to also use their fine motor skills as they ‘pinched’ the cheese to ‘sprinkle’ it on the pizza and used a spoon to ‘scoop’ the toppings they wanted.
As they were doing this activity the grown ups modelled language and narrated key words of significance which are quoted above. This also encouraged the children to use mathematical language by counting the amount of the individual topping they put on their pizza, for example, when the children put the tomatoes on their pizza we supported them by demonstrating they use their index finger to count them individually. We also encouraged this by using language like lots, more, small amount etc.
