At The Priory, we made pizza from scratch. First, we prepared the dough by weighing each ingredient carefully with a digital scale which we borrowed from the kitchen. Then we discussed the exact amounts needed as Heather shared her recipe. After thoroughly mixing the ingredients, I took the dough to the kitchen to ask Heather to knead it. We then placed the dough on the window ledge to observe it rise over time. Additionally, we used child-safe knives to carefully chop a pepper into small dice for our pizza topping, although some children were happy to help chop the pepper, but were not keen on having it on their pizza.
In the afternoon, we gathered at the table to finally finish our homemade pizza. Each child rolled out their own small, round pizza base using a rolling pin before adding toppings. The children chose to have their pizzas for tea. Some children sprinkled sweet corn and diced yellow peppers evenly over their pizzas, with a few wanting both toppings, while others preferred a simpler Margherita, with just tomato sauce and cheese. We wrapped some for the children who were going home, as their sessions ended before the usual teatime.
