Professional Code of Conduct

By becoming a member of Bristol Childcare staff, I sign up to the following Code of Conduct. This applies to when I am at work in a Nursery and also when I am at training or otherwise representing Bristol Childcare:

  1. I will always keep in mind the Bristol Childcare ethos and will do all I can to understand how it applies to all aspects of my work and professional relationships and development.
  2. I will always have the care of each individual child as the focus of everything I do.
  3. I will actively promote and support the safeguarding of children, ensuring nursery policies and procedures are observed at all times.
  4. I will only use appropriate language.
  5. I will dress smartly in clean, well-kept uniform.
  6. I will show professional respect to parents, other carers and all members of the staff team, at work and outside work hours, including online. I will respect individuals regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.
  7. I understand that I am a member of a team and that my behaviour will impact on other members of staff. I will do all I can to be an honest and reliable member of the team and will be accountable for and take responsibility for my actions.
  8. I will be flexible in my working hours where required.
  9. I will show professional commitment to the children I care for and their parents, to my nursery team, to the Bristol Childcare team and to myself as a developing childcare practitioner.
  10. I will attend training and read and update my knowledge to ensure I am constantly reviewing, evaluating and improving my practice. I understand I must undertake 10 hours of Continuous Personal Development a year as per clause 40 of the Staff Handbook. I will conduct myself professionally when at training and will show respect to the trainer and other delegates.
  11. I will be aware of the importance of confidentiality and act appropriately.
  12. Through my behaviour, attitude and level of care, I will be a strong role model to the children I care for.
