The children in Preschool at Mornington House are loving role play at the moment. Our pedagogy of In the Moment Planning means that we follow the children’s interests and allow them to lead their learning and development through play. We spend time observing the children at play and extend their development where it is appropriate for us to do so, without stopping the flow of ideas. Teachable moments really do come naturally when an adult is nearby observing the play and when they have the knowledge and skills to know when children are ready for their learning to be extended. We facilitate the next step in children’s development in lots of different ways such as demonstrating, exploring ideas, providing a narrative, adding resources and setting challenges. In the Moment Planning allows children to continue their play, and therefore learning, uninterrupted so that their interest is sustained.
