Summertime at The Priory

There have been many new experiences in the garden for the children to get involved in.

Sunflower seeds were planted in March and as you can see, what a success this year.

The children were having fun measuring with measuring tapes, talking about their own height to the height of the sunflowers.

There were also lots of conversations about the bumblebee taking the nectar from the sunflower and how we can eat the seeds from the middle once they are dried and roasted.

Potatoes were also planted. We all watched them flower and grow and Mr Farr very kindly harvested them for us. Heather then washed and cooked them for our lunch.

Sadly we had to let our butterflies go!

The Preschool children observed the life cycle from tiny caterpillars to beautiful butterflies!

The children watched while we released the butterflies from the net. We talked about how they take a while before they start to fly away because their wings are sometimes stuck together.

We will look out for them, they might fly into our garden again!
