I find growing things really therapeutic, so am enjoying looking after the plants from Mornington House as some of my weekend wellbeing.
I have repotted all of the wallflowers that the staff and children at Mornington House planted, to give them more space to grow. I am looking forward to the time when I can take the bigger plants into Mornington to plant out and share with families. I have also been planting sunflowers for each nursery.
While I was repotted the plants I found a hazelnut which is sprouting – I’ve put this in a separate pot to tend. It will be fantastic to watch this grow into a tree at Mornington House!
I think gardening helps my mental health because it gives me hope to watch things grow and appreciate the changing seasons.
You can plant lots of things even in small spaces – sunflowers will grow in pots – can you grow one in a sunny spot up against your house? Or cress seeds are great fun too because they grow so quickly! You can buy seeds online or some places like B&Q are opening up again – some supermarkets even have seeds. Let us know if you grow anything!
