On World Book Day, some of the children and staff at The Priory dressed up as their favourite characters from beloved stories, showcasing their enthusiasm, especially Daisy (staff member), acting out the character she was dressed up as (Calm from The Colour Monster) reading and celebrating literature.
In twos the children love ‘The Colour Monster’ book; we read it every day! So, for World Book Day the staff each dressed up as a different colour representing a different emotion. We acted out different emotions and talked about how they make our lives and those around us feel. I provided the twos with a Colour Monster colour sorting activity, this not only supported their colour recognition but also their fine motor and coordination skills, as they used tweezers to pick up the pom-poms.
A few children brought in their favourite book from home and at circle time shared them with their friends. We took turns reading each story and the children were very proud to be sharing a piece of home with their friends.
We also made our own books using card and pens, I demonstrated drawing a picture on the front and writing inside to represent a book. The children were excited to do this and explained they were drawing their character on the front, then they interpreted writing by drawing lines and zigzags on the inside.
