Diwali visit

Recently at The Priory, Uma, the mum of Meera, one of our pre-schoolers, visited to talk about Diwali, sharing how her family celebrates this important holiday and explaining its cultural significance. The children listened attentively and showed great interest.

Uma began by explaining Diwali and then read two books she brought. She also demonstrated some resources, such as Diya (lights) that illuminate when water is poured into them. The children had an interactive opportunity to try these lights at the end.

Meera dressed in traditional outfits, looking lovely with bangles and traditional forehead dots (Bindi), which added to her festive appearance. Meera demonstrated how to perform Namaste by pressing her palms together and some children were successfully able to greet her back using what Meera showed them.

Uma brought a variety of sweet and sour snacks for the children and staff, which we packed and sent home with the children to avoid any unknown allergens. The children then showed their appreciation to both Uma and Meera for the time and effort they put into coming in and sharing this with us.
