Bristol Childcare understands that there is benefit to families to be able to have nursery staff babysit for them.
However, it is very important that both families and staff understand that any babysitting is done on a completely separate basis to Bristol Childcare commitments.
Therefore, we ask staff and parents to pay attention to the following guidelines.
- Staff and parents must read and sign this Code of Conduct when they first set up a babysitting arrangement. The signed document is kept in the staff member’s personnel file.
- Babysitting arrangements are separate to the parents’ agreement with nursery and Bristol Childcare does not accept any liability for the actions of individuals outside contracted working hours.
- Any care provided outside nursery hours is not part of the service provided by Bristol Childcare and it will take no part in any such arrangement. Staff undertake any babysitting as their own person, not as a member of Bristol Childcare staff. Bristol Childcare has no duties or responsibilities as regards a person’s conduct when babysitting. Bristol Childcare cannot accept any complaints about a member of staff’s behaviour, work or conduct outside work or while babysitting.
- What the person is paid to babysit is a private agreement between the staff member and parents and is connected in no way to the staff member’s salary.
- Staff and parents must not discuss nursery issues outside nursery. Parents must raise any issues in accordance with the Complaints Policy during nursery hours. Staff must raise any issues with their manager, not discuss them privately with parents.
- Staff and parents must not discuss anything confidential, including a staff situation, children and other staff.
- Staff must not give out any confidential information while with a family.
- Staff and parents must respect the boundaries between a family’s private home and the nursery situation. However, should staff have any safeguarding concerns from what they see or experience while babysitting for a family, they have a duty to raise those by calling First Response Bristol – 0117 903 6444 or the Access and Response Team (South Glos) 01454 863 000.
- Staff and parents should be mindful of the difficultly of taking photographs of children. Staff must always ensure they have the parents’ permission to take photos when babysitting. Any photos that staff take outside work of children who attend nursery, should remain private to them and should not be used at nursery.
- Babysitting commitments must not impact on work obligations.
- If any staff actions in connection with babysitting have a detrimental impact on Bristol Childcare, its staff and how we operate, there may be disciplinary action against that person in accordance with our Staff Handbook.
We commit to adhering to the terms of this Code of Conduct.
