The purpose of this policy is to ensure that anyone not recognised at the door is not admitted without being identified.
ADMITTANCE
- The nursery is locked, the gates closed and the areas are contained at all times. Admittance can only be made via the intercom or code.
- No one is admitted that the staff do not recognise. Staff must clarify who the person is and the purpose of their visit. Students, agency staff and volunteers are not permitted to admit parents or visitors.
- Parents are asked not to allow anyone they don’t know in through the door with them; they are reminded of the importance of this by “moments” sent through ParentZone and signs.
- Regular tradesmen i.e. PHS, window cleaner, are not admitted if not recognised and are escorted at all times.
- Parents making a visit to nursery for the first time are greeted at the door.
- Visits to nursery must be booked by telephone and recorded in the diary. ID must be checked for interview candidates.
- All visitors to nursery must be asked to sign in and wear a badge – see Health and Safety Policy. All mobile telephones are put in the safe – see Mobile Phones and Social Media Policy.
- For anyone claiming to have been invited to the nursery by a member of staff or management, staff must check the validity of the invitation and purpose of the visit.
- Regular contractors and administrative staff are listed in Appendix 1. All must be asked to sign in but are not required to wear a badge.
- Anxieties about anyone making admittance by mistake are reported to the manager who will take the appropriate action which may involve calling the Police.
- Parents are asked for names of nominated regular collectors on registration and these people are listed on the Collection, Contacts and Medical Details form. Parents must notify staff of anyone other than that collecting their child with a name and description (i.e. car registration, features). A collection form must be filled in and signed by the parent. Photographs sent through ParentZone can be used to help with recognition.
- Staff should be aware of the possibility of being manipulated in order to gain access, as outlined in the Collection Policy.
STAFF RECOGNITION
- All staff wear a uniform and name badge.
- Children are introduced to new staff, students, volunteers and notices are put on the screen in reception to inform parents about new staff and agency staff. Photos are sent through ParentZone.
- Staff photographs and qualifications are displayed in reception on our Family Tree.
