39. Pay review policy

General

39.1   Pay review for all staff members is at the discretion of the company management.

39.2   Staff who have been employed by the company for less than one full Pay Year shall not receive any pay review except where additional qualifications have been gained or where exceptional performance is noted.

39.3   There is no pay review entitlement for a staff member under a probationary period or under disciplinary measures, including Notices to Improve.

Definitions

39.4   Pay Year – 1st April to 31st March

39.5  Pay review date – 1st April. The date from which revised salary will be paid.

39.6   Cost of living – Inflation rate published by UK Government as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI)

39.7   The organisation – Bristol Child Care Ltd, and the nurseries it operates

Objectives

39.8   To ensure pay is in accordance with national policies such as the minimum wage and adherence to equal pay policies and law.

39.9   To create an environment in which child care professionals are rewarded for hard work and outstanding contribution to the organisation.

39.10   To retain high quality staff and reward real personal and professional progress.

39.11   To help staff understand their career development needs and the success in achieving these.

Method of Calculation

39.12   The total pay review comprises two parts

  • Cost of living review
  • Performance & Career Development review

39.13   The cost of living review is at the discretion of the management of Bristol Childcare Ltd and will be determined on the basis of current inflation (published CPI, 1st September each year) as well as previous, current and future financial performance of the company. Where financially viable, the company will endeavour to maintain real salary levels (i.e. in-line with inflation)

39.14   The performance and career development review is based on annual career appraisals as well as the on-going financial position of the company / individual nursery works and the value the staff member brings to the business.

39.15   Where staff have gained additional qualifications within the last pay year, any resulting pay enhancement shall be back dated to the achievement of the qualification.
